Item Details: Implementing the Findings of Research: Bridging the Gap Between Knowledge and Practice

The use of scientifically based instruction was a priority long before the fairly recent federal requirements in this area. However, efforts to bring the findings of research into the classroom in a meaningful way are often frustrated by the knowledge needed to understand the research and to understand what is involved in implementing research-based practices successfully. This important volume addresses the implementation of research findings in the schools in a way that sheds new light on the subject. The authors present and clarify the essential components and stages of the implementation process, which frequently have not been addressed with the practitioners most in need of the information. And the authors provide guidance to school personnel in how to achieve fidelity of implementation. As additional resources, we have appended to the book three articles on understanding and evaluating research, two published online by the Institute of Education Sciences in the U.S. Department of Education, and one published in Exceptional Children, the research journal of the Council for Exceptional Children.
